Valérie MERINDOL, Alexandra LE CHAFFOTEC, K. GOGLIO, F. CRESPIN-MAZET

This article investigates the role played by boundary spanners in the
development of resilient and reflective trust within communities. Based
on a multi-case study in French communities aiming to develop users’
innovations in Health care system, this research highlights the central
role of boundary spanners to produce resilient and reflexive trust.
Boundary spanners support the main sources of this trust: they support
new interactions, convey values of openness and reciprocity and finally
constantly seek to preserve and align personal calculations and interests.
This research finally shows how their intervention to develop resilient
and reflective trust evolves according to the phases of community devel-
opment. Central to the emergence and development of communities, this
role gradually fades in the maturation phase when the collective dynamic
is well established.
